Note the weapon pickup priority: machine gun > rocket launcher > pistol. When resources are limited, focus on upgrading one main weapon to increase damage and range, which is more practical than scattered upgrades.
Always keep moving during battles. Enemies in the game will keep swarming in, and staying in place will easily get you surrounded.
